The Eucerin Hypersensitive Skin ranges - UltraSENSITIVE and AntiREDNESS - tackle the three consistent factors in hypersensitive skin: a compromised skin barrier, hyper-reactive sensory fibres and redness, often caused by inflammation. These factors are known collectively as the Hypersensitive Skin Triangle.
The first and most important step in caring for hypersensitive skin is ensuring that it is effectively cleansed without irritating or harming the already defective skin barrier or the underlying hyper-responsive sensory fibres. Because hypersensitive skin has a compromised skin barrier it is susceptible to irritations and the sensory fibres in the epidermis are easily activated by stressors. This leads to unpleasant feelings on the skin which sufferers describe as, among other things, burning or stinging.
Eucerin UltraSENSITIVE Cleansing Lotion leaves hypersensitive (including redness/Rosacea/Couperose-prone skin) thoroughly cleansed while its 'pure' formula contains only a limited number of ingredients to minimise intolerance and allergic reactions. The UltraSENSITIVE Cleansing Lotion has no surfactants, and is very gentle to the skin, yet it is powerful enough to remove make-up.
Eucerin UltraSENSITIVE Cleansing Lotion contains SymSitive*, an innovative active ingredient especially developed for hypersensitive skin. It acts as a sensitivity regulator at the source of the hyper-reactivity, minimising sensory fibre activation and, in turn, soothing hypersensitivity instantly.
Eucerin UltraSENSITIVE Cleansing Lotion instantly calms and soothes irritation and relieves redness, making it a fundamental part of the daily care routine for hypersensitive skin. Following cleansing, use Eucerin UltraSENSITIVE Soothing Care Dry skin or Eucerin UltraSENSITIVE Soothing Care Normal to combination skin when the dominant skin problem is an unpleasant skin feel such as burning, stinging or itching. If skin shows visible signs of redness, there are signs of inflammatory skin diseases like Rosacea, or if an SPF is wanted, use Eucerin AntiREDNESS Soothing Care or Eucerin AntiREDNESS Concealing Day Care SPF 25.
As with all products in the Hypersensitive Skin ranges, Eucerin UltraSENSITIVE Cleansing Lotion uses anti-contamination packaging with a dual valve system.

Anti-contamination packaging
All products in the Eucerin Hypersensitive Skin ranges use anti-contamination packaging to protect the formula from impurities and oxidation. This packaging addresses three key risk areas: the valves, component connections and the functionality of dispensing. The valves have sterilising filters, the connections are ultra-welded for tightness and the dispenser has an ultra tight tip seal.
Clinical studies
Clinical and dermatological studies prove high tolerability and excellent efficacy on hypersensitive skin, including Rosacea and Couperose-prone skin.
To assess the efficacy of UltraSENSITIVE Cleansing Lotion a self-assessment study was carried out among ≥53 women (19-60 years) with sensitive to very sensitive skin. The product was applied twice daily for 4 weeks in a split face design.

How it works
As hypersensitive skin typically has a weakened skin barrier it is more prone to irritations and hyper-reactive skin sensory fibres are easily activated by stressors. The purity of the formula and its anti-contamination packaging help to minimise intolerance or allergic reactions.
When skin is sensitive the sensory fibres in the epidermis react faster and much stronger than in normal skin, triggering unpleasant skin sensations. SymSitive* is the first active ingredient to regulate skin sensory fibre activation, soothing very sensitive skin and offering instant relief. Because the skin nerve fibres are less irritable they don’t over-react to stressors. Over time hypersensitive skin's tolerance threshold is increased and hypersensitive skin is calmed.

Why does hypersensitivity occur?
Eucerin has identified three aspects to hypersensitive skin: a compromised skin barrier, hyper-responsive sensory fibres in the epidermis and redness, often caused by inflammation. As many of the symptoms are non-visible the sensations experienced by sufferers are subjective but many report feelings of stinging or burning. These sensations can be accompanied by dryness, redness and may develop into Couperose-prone skin or Rosacea.
